The Extended Family is re-imagining the ways in which adults with disabilities lead productive lives by fostering exploration, empathy, expression, and independence through meaningful engagement.
We meaningfully engage exceptional adults who rely on qualified support by providing a stress free environment where personal interests, passions, and unrecognized intellectual abilities are revealed.
Open the possibilities for adults of all abilities to create new ideas by providing a sanctuary for skill training, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging within the community at large.
"When I first started working with The Extended Family I was hesitant, but now I am comfortable. I was desperately lonely, but now I am much nearer my best self with this noble effort. This productive work helps me develop a real mastery of myself. I am part of a happy team in action, in a peaceful, hopeful place."

Too many school children do not have adequate or even any food over the weekends, school vacations, holidays and summer break. We have created an extension of the Community Giving Cupboard initiative called SOS to help address this urgent need. We are excited to share that we're now providing school break lunches for families who rely on school lunches during the academic year. Our generous Dreamers enthusiastically pack ingredients for a minimum of 225 lunches for each delivery.
"The Extended Family truly lives up to its name: my daughter feels at home the minute she arrives. Leigh has made new friends, developed new skills, and completed projects earmarked for essential workers and at-risk families in our community. The staff is uniquely talented at nurturing her creativity, fostering her independent skills, and growing her confidence. What matters above all is that Leigh can't wait to get to The Extended Family and is greeted with a big hug when she arrives." Wendy B
Strolling along the edge of the sea, a man catches sight of a young woman who appears to be engaged in a ritual dance. She stoops down, then straightens to her full height, casting her arm out in an arc.
Drawing closer, he sees the beach around her is littered with starfish, and she is throwing them one by one into the sea. He lightly mocks her: “There are stranded starfish as far as the eye can see, for miles up the beach. What difference can saving a few of them possibly make?”
Smiling, she bends down and once more tosses a starfish out over the water, saying serenely, “It certainly makes a difference to this one.”
